Though silly as they may seem, hashtags have become a popular way of bringing attention to causes that matter, and in the chiropractic community bringing pain relief to patients without contributing to the prescription pill problems is definitely one of those causes.

Thomas Edison once said, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." Chiropractors work under the same concept, to treat people by adjusting the main issue and providing preventative care, instead of just treating the symptoms over and over again. The United States of America is going through a prescription medication epidemic. Many medical doctors only focus on treating your symptoms with medication.

It is estimated that there are between 26.4 million and 36 million people suffering with opiate abuse worldwide, of which 2.1 million of those people reside in the United States. This statistic was found in 2012, imagine where the numbers could be at now. Though there are many contributors to this issue, the biggest being medical doctors constantly prescribing various pain medications. More than 259 million prescriptions were written in the United States for Vicodin, OxyContin and other opioid painkillers in 2012 - that is enough for every American adult to have a bottle of pills. These harsh statistics are why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has declared the prescription pill abuse in our country as an "epidemic."

At Cobb Rehab & Wellness, Dr. Cobb focuses on holistic pain relief around adjusting subluxations within the spine and treating the problem, not by attempting to mask the pain by referring to pain management specialists.
